I joined Facebook today. oooh I feel so dirty now.

Actually joining wasn't really what I wanted to do, it was just a means of finding out more information on a band's venue. For some CRAZY reason, all the information on that venue is on Facebook, and you can't see shit unless you have a Facebook account yourself. I thought "Hey! What the hell, I'll just make a quick n' dirty account just so I can get that information I wanted". Little did I know that once I was on Facebook, I found that EVERYBODY I know has one. EVERYBODY. AND people still actually use it to talk to each other (despite using other forms of daily communication like Myspace and Twitter).

Needless to say, I shocked by how many different social networking sites my friends (and even my boyfriend!) are using. Everybody's twittering and writing stuff on Facebook walls and commenting on Myspace blogs and who knows what other newfangled shit. Quite frankly, it's all too much for me to keep up with.

So uh, thanks to all the people who friended me on Facebook. I apologize in advance for not being very active in using it, I'm too stupid to handle more than one social networking site at a time, apparently -__-;;

En lieu of all this, I have recently decided to beef up the only site I really do use to keep in contact with friends, my Myspace. I spent some times making it look nice and adding my comics in there cause I figure, if people take the time to look at my page then they deserve to see something more than just a blank page with my face on it. So there you go.

I guess I don't really consider Livejournal to be a social networking site, at least not for me. It's more of an outlet for my thoughts and even if no one reads it I would still have it and write in it regularly as I have been. The fact that a few people actually do read it and comment on it occasionally is just an added bonus. I really do like having my lj, cause I can look back on the stuff I've written about and done, kind of like a diary but without the lameness of writing about stupid teenage love affairs.

Oh and one more thing, I REFUSE to join Twitter. Me twittering is about as useless and someone asking me how I am doing every 5 minutes. I have nothing to say to you Twitter, and if something really cool happens to me, I'll tell you to your face or draw a comic about it.

Doris Lessing's "Briefing for a Decent into Hell" and Avatar have consumed my life for the past two weeks.

I keep reading that damn book OVER AND OVER AGAIN and I DON'T GET IT. Not even one bit and my final exam on it is in a few days. Must. read it. Again. ugggh

As for Avatar...what can I say over than it's the most excited I've been about a show since Naruto's Chuunin exams. No wait, I take it back. It's like ten thousand times better than the best Naruto episode that can ever be made. There I said it.

As soon as all this Doris Lessing nonsense it over I will resume normal posts and comics. Until then, I will be reading my ass off.

X-Files - A Love Letter to the Fans

This movie is getting ripped apart by the critics! Sure, it was as theatrical as the last movie was ten years ago, but that really wasn't the intention with this film. From the very beginning Carter and Spotnitz have been telling us that this latest installment is a return to the X-files' beginnings; it was made to be a well told "episode" reminesent of the type of mystery stories from season one. It was also made known that this film would bring closure to the fans who were left high and dry when the show ended in terms of the relationship between Mulder and Scully.

The film delivers absolutely everything it promised it's fans and more.

The film really caters to the truly devoted, giving us the little nuances and moments that fans would really appreciate. Instances like Mulder eating his trademark sunflower seeds, the picture of Samantha, mentioning William, and the return of A.D. Skinner give the fans a sense of inclusion. It's like a big personal "thank you" to the fans and makes a fan feel appreciated for having watched the show.

The plot itself was really interesting as well: A classic murder mystery with a grotesque twist. The X-Files' creators have always been masters of making stories that are both interesting and horrifying and this is no exception.
I have to admit though, I was truly invested in the love story between Mulder and Scully above all other things. All of that intimacy that those two characters had during the show was left unresolved and this was finally my chance to see what have transpired since the show's end. Now I have my answers and I feel fullfilled. Though closure is not quite what I desire (personally I would like an X-Files 3 that focuses on the alien mythology established from the show in the future) I am very happy this movie was made. And if enough people show interest in it, there very well may be an X-Files 3(The actors and director said so!). I'm going to watch the movie again a few times of course =) I want to make sure there's a trilogy. (And if anybody else out there is a fan, come see it with me again!)

That being said, I can understand why critics who have not followed the show would poo all over it. The X-Files movie from 10 years ago was made for everyone to watch, this one was a FANS ONLY affair. It probably shouldn't have opened so close to Batman either. Those factors may hurt it's box office chances (it placed 4th on it's openning weekend) but honestly, I think the movie is WONDERFUL and wouldn't have had it any other way.

That's my two cents.

Comic Con 2008

Yep, Guy and I are finally back from San Diego Comic Con and boy are our backs in pain! =D

I didn't manage to take too many pictures myself (stupid me) but luckily my curly-headed friend Ray took a billion awesome pictures during his 4 day stay HERE. Also, Guy took a bunch of great pictures too, and I pretty much served as his photographer half the time. Hence no pictures of me.

I took the liberty of borrowing some of my favorites of theirs to share too because I took so few -.- Besides you can tell the difference, mine are bigger, Ray's are smaller (and better) and Guy has the ones with all the pictures of himself in them hahaha.

First of all, We decided that we should beat the morning traffic and go stay with Rachel and Ray in their hotel the night before. What we weren't prepared for was the ABSOLUTE CONCRETENESS of the floor. I swear that was the hardest floor in the history of the world. It was really really hard to sleep. Guy and Ray made sure no one got any sleep anyways. Some of the other people sleeping in the room got up at 5a.m. (hardcore) and went about their business. Guy and I stole their beds after they left >=)

By the way, I'm gonna be the first to say that Guy was NOT looking forward to this trip at all. He had been dreading it for weeks and when the day finally came, He couldn't have been in a more dismal mood. Coupled with the 3 hours of sleep on the floor, it pretty much spelled doom. I on the other hand, have never been and was giddy as a kid. Even as Guy cursed my nerdiness, I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face. =)

A brief blurb about the panel I went to:

I went to Comic con for the sole purpose of being in the same room as Bruce Timm, one of my idols and a fantastic comic book artist/writer, cartoon director and pretty much the only reason I watched tv as a kid. The man worked on Freakazoid and Tiny Toons before being given the task of creating the Batman Animated series. The Teen Titans and Justice League and many DC movies have followed and the man seems to have the Midas touch in everything he's done.

When I heard that the DCU was doing a panel on Timm's latest co-project and that Andrea Romano and Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer himself!) were going to be there, well I decided this would be the year I would finally go to Comic con.

I managed to get a fairly decent seat for the panel and my fellow nerds and I salivated over the latest footage of Wonder Woman and shouted with glee when Timm was actually up for SUGGESTIONS FOR HIS FUTURE PROJECTS. I think everyone in the room had a different favorite story that they wanted to see animated (mine would be Gotham Central) but the fact that he wanted to know what we wanted to see, well that's just fucking FANTASTIC. I think I may run away with him.

After the illuminating panel we were told that the panelists were going to have a singing at the Wr\arner Bros. Tower afterward and that we were wlecome to join. To my dismay, as soon a I got there I saw that it would be a 2+ hour wait to meet them ;___; C'est la Vie. I did not get to meet my idol or crack jokes with Fillion, or ask Romano if she could use me for any future voice acting hahaa. That's ok though, cause I still managed to STEAL A PICTURE EVEN THOUGH SECURITY SAID NO MWAHAHAHA

By the end of all the madness I'd say that the trip was a resounding success. No, I didn't get to fangirl all over Mr. Timm, but I did get to see him speak! And I didn't go overboard buying things (a first for me at cons), and I didn't get lost even though there were billions of people wall to wall a lot of times. Oh and the biggest success? Guy actually sounded interested in GOING AGAIN NEXT YEAR. This coming from the same man who cursed my Comiccon-loving existence just hours before.

That, my friends, is SUCCESS.

There hasn't really been time for me to socialize with anyone though, and that makes me kind of sad. I miss thrifting, scanning my comics, and hanging out with the Buttface and ManlyVanle =(

When I come back from Comic Con my schedule should be much more open to do all thos things!

~I have been reading like a mad woman for my English class. It's already half over! NOOOOOOO
~Rachel's party was pretty much the total shit =D I got to meet cool people like Miss B and see Willa again. (I don't think Rachel's parents appreciated Guy's singing lol)
~Been downloading like crazy looking for new tunes - TingTings, Alphabeat, Frente!, Yelle, so on and so forth...
~Currently addicted to manga/anime Lovely Complex. I'm in too deep!

~Been blasting Parappa's I Scream album ALL DAY CAUSE IT'S THE SHIT!

Not that I've ever been a normal sleeper but this is seriously getting weird.

For the past couple of weeks I've been staying up until 5 a.m. not because I want to but because my eyes WON'T REST at night. It really doesn't matter if I'm laying in bed in complete darkness either. SLEEP WILL NOT COME. Today I got so see the sun rise and IT WAS SCARY. I haven't been taking naps during the day like I used to either, to replenish my tired ass. This is seriously freaking me the hell out because the change is so drastic.

Factors

* Heat?
* Stress?
* Something I can't put my finger on?

The fatigue is actually starting to get to me too. I have not been in a very good mood for what feels like weeks and what little exercise regime I had been keeping has sort of been falling apart too -__-;; I haven't even felt like eating much of anything. There's just no desire to do anything at all.

OHGOD I'M TURNING INTO A SLUG.

Woah that first slug is some freaky prehistoric shit! 0.o

P.S. If anyone has any good advice on helping me sleep/bringing me my energy back I would appreciate it. I'll try anything as long as it's not gross!

Ebay - A series of poor decisions.

I know I already posted today but I'm NOT SLEEPY AT ALL.

eBay-ing has been going so-so for me, it seems that every article of clothing I bid on suddenly gets popular and I get outbid by a million people :___: there is one more clothing item that I am bidding on (it ends on a few days) but I fear history will repeat itself and I will be outbid at the last minute!

Comicbook-wise, I've been trying forever to get Wormwood at a decently discounted price but failing miserably in obtaining them via eBay. I was bidding on issues #1-7 (individual copies) but the price jumped so high that I was waaaaaay out of my league by the time the bidding was over.

I'm bidding on the graphic novel version now, as well and it's sequel in hopes that no one wants it as badly as the comic version. ::crosses fingers::

The good news is that I scored issues 5, 7, and 8 of The Sword for the ridiculously cheap price of $6. Each issue is about 4 bucks so i made out like a bandit. SCORE.

I haven't been just sitting idly by, spending away my money though. I took it upon myself to actually sell things on eBay as well. I know I'm gonna regret it but I really can't justify keeping it, considering how it doesn't fit me at the waist. It's a real shame too, cause I really really love this thing.

So long, pinstripey thing, may you find greener pastures and someone with a smaller waist who will wear you well. (right now 3 people are bidding on it =D hell yea! $$$)

I know I'll regret selling this too but what the hell. I don't think it'll take on eBay so I put this one on Etsy (etsy people love vintage stuff).

I'm gonna miss you, colorful coat, but you were just a tad too big.

Ok this ends my series of poor decision-making and escapades on eBay. I now that some people are really good at buying cool stuff at a good price online but I am obviously a newb and admittedly terrible at it. Good day all.

Games, Booty, and Cursing like Pirates

I've been having a rather interesting weekend.

Friday:

My brother turned 21 and my Grandma turned 77 that day. The day started off a bit shitty (my grandma was being a bitch for real) but I took my mother out to Friscos' and shopping to cheer her up (it worked!) After delicious greek salads and cute dresses, the whole family meet that evening to go to Chili's. My brother had been with his girlfriend Vicki the whole day, hanging out at Knott's and shopping. I think my brother was happy =) since he's 21 now he can finally start bartending. He spent most of the evening telling us what stuff goes in the fancy drinks they were serving at Chili's. I think he made out pretty well too - his car broke down a few days ago so my dad helped him out with buying a car. I got him a $50 Visa gift card, and Vicki got his nice clothes and rollerblades. After all that I went to see Guy. He informed me that he and Ray had been playing Singstar all day and that he was exhausted. Guy had the entire day off, thursday being his last day at Activision. I can't believe he had been working for Activision for such a long time (almost 5 years!) but I hope this new company treats him well. He's been working so hard and really deserves something better than what Activision offered. Now he has a day job so I will be able to see him more often =D ::happy dance::

Saturday:

Guy and I had Loft for lunch. Guy was slightly disturbed by the amount of enormous people there were in the restaurant at the time and talked to me about new shoes he bought and how excited he is about the Laker game that will be on Sunday. We ordered the healthiest things on the menu: Guy ate grilled chicken and I had a grilled salmon (Guy has been worried about our eating habits and cholesterol lately, which I think he might be overly worried about but whatever...I guess it's good that he cares about it). The salmon was lovely. Our attempt to go to the bookstore was a failure so we went to Gamestop instead. I scored Touch Detective (the first one) and Contact, both used. This makes me VERY happy because 1. I haven't played anything since Professor Layton & Rune Factory and 2. I haven't been able to start playing Touch Detective 2 1/2 from Jaana because I couldn't find the first game in stores anywhere. I've started now and I pleased to say Touch Detective is absolutely excellent!
Ray came over again and once again, Singstar ensued. I think it may be the official game of our household. Brittany Spear's "Toxic" has been burned into my memory.

I made plans with Rachel and Ray to go to a club event called Japan L.A. last night. I had gone last year (in a different location) with them and was looking forward to getting out of the house. Unfortunately Guy opted not to go (which is fine, I know it's not his kind of scene anyway). The three of us went with Irma and her brother Jose (Irma looked super cute with bright pink) and Rachel and I glammed it up with grey and black. I thought we all looked great but apparently not slutty enough for this event. It was a sea of hoes, cougars, and hipster fags. It took us a while for actually get to the event, because it seemed like the whole world was in L.A. at the time. Once we got there we made the mistake of eating in the club. We all had shitty expensive salads and wings while watching Hello Kitty mingle (Hello Kitty hell yea). Aabria showed up after we had all finished eating and everyone hit the dance floor. I'm not gonna lie, the music was AMAZING - it was all 90s dance and 80s remixes mixed in with some good selections of new music and a few vamped rock songs (they played Daft Punk <3). Usually my club experiences (although few) have been 5% awesome and 95% shitty music so I was pleasantly surprised. Still, I chose not to shake my booty on the dancefloor that night - not because I didn't like the music (cause I loved it) but rather because I was a bit frightened by that random grabbing and freaking. As soon as I saw Aabria getting freaked by some random creepy looking guy, I made my decision - no dancing for me! Also, I really don't know how to dance well, or at least not as well as everyone there =). Lucky for me, Jose was in the same position so we just hung out eating free candy and chattin' it up. Previous to this outing I never really got a chance the get to know Jose very well but I soon discovered that, much like all of Guy's friends, he's pretty cool. People watching was fun and we spent the evening commenting on the music and people there. We ate a SHITLOAD of candy, hell yea. I frequently texted Guy the entire time, so he wouldn't feel lonely and so he knew that I was ok and being a good girl =) I really missed him, he could sat with us and made fun of people *__* I think I should force him to go next time. The evening ended with the 5 of us eating at Denny's and talking about how Chango is ridiculous. We talked for a long time and I felt a little sad that I'm not gonna be seeing Irma so much anymore, she's a cool chick (stupid Geno). I got home at 5 a.m. and Guy stayed up to see me (he's such a sweetheart <3) he told me he missed me a lot and not to leave him for that long anymore. I'm pretty sure he's safe - Clubbing's not my scene so I probably won't be leaving him to dance with random strangers every night haha. Still, I did have a lot of fun hanging out with everyone, listening to great music and people watching (I should have brought my camera! shit!). I've never eaten so much candy in my life or gotten home so late before =D Thank you so much Rachel for inviting me, I don't do very many exciting things or go out with friends very much so this was super exciting for me. I had a blast!

Sunday:

I woke up in the middle of the day, but I'm still kind of groggy. Ray had already arrived by the time I woke up so guess what? Yup, you guessed it, Singstar. Or rather Singstar's illegal cousin, Ultrastar. I know Mike and Yuni can't stand it when they play but I can't help enjoying myself watching them. They make the perfect duet. It's like magic. Guy really gets into it too, it's kind of hot >.< After Pollo Loco salads and Boba tea, Ray and Guy begin watching the NBA playoffs. I'm sitting with them right now and all you hear is "FUCK! WHY THE... AWWW MAN!!! YOU STUPID FAGGOT! GODDAMNIT FUCKING SHIT WHAT IS GOING ON". Over and over and over. It's the end of the 3rd quarter right now and you should se the look of their faces: it's a mixture of anger, defeat and disgust. I think I may leave the room for 4th quarter... I pray the Lakers win cause I don't wanna see what's gonna happen if they loose. I think Guy and Ray might have simultaneous strokes.

Anyway, that's my weekend. Hope you guys are having an interesting one too!

I love his sense of humor. I miss the Drew Carey show.

And I think he's doing a fantastic job of hosting the Price is Right.
(I'm watching it right now, and he's in a TUX, hell yea)

Some cool stuff and not so cool stuff from the past 3 days:

Cool stuff:
- I bought a comic book rack. now I can store my comic books like a proper nerd.
- Guy and I are like peas n' carrots. I love that man so damn much.
- I sold one of my dresses for $40!
- I got to see my girls at Geno's birthday party.
- Random message from someone I hadn't spoken to since I was 11 on Myspace! and we have comics in common! what are the odds?
- Guy got his economic stimulation check...that means mine is not to far away....right? right?
- The calzones at B.J.s restaurant are yummy.
- I learned how to make pretty origami flowers at work.
- Ray and I are Batman dvd twins.
- Changing make-up was a great idea. Now my face doesn't sweat when I wear my glasses.
- Watched Nightmare on Elm Street. It's still got it.

Stuff that's not so cool:
- The person who I wanted to win Survivor DIDN'T WIN. ::anger fist::
- I kind of don't have anymore money. Where's my economic stimulation check??!
- Tomorrow is Monday. I'd like to sleep all day but Monday has other plans for me.
- Geno's party was better known as Drama-con 2008. I learned that getting plastered makes people say thing they should never say ever >.<
- I can't find issue #1 of "the Sword" by the Luna Brothers. Or Wormwood Gentleman Corpse in ANY comic books stores around here.
- I didn't have time to draw like I wanted. So instead I have pictures.

My mom took a random picture of me being stupid. I've had this thing forever and was never able to button it up. Score one for not being a fatty anymore! I'm ready for the beach!

My new nerdcase, I mean, comic rack. Comic Rack. ::spin spin spin::

I hope i will have time to draw tomorrow. Oh wait, I'm gonna sell more stuff tomorrow. hot damn.
